Weegy: Native American societies were communal. That means that they shared everything they hunted or produced. Decisions were made by a council of elders. No one individual got all the say. [ They were not "Christian" in our sense of the word but, in their manner and the way they treated each other they were probably more Christian than many of the white people who settled in and took over their land, killed all the buffalo and left them to starve on reservations. They followed the teachings of the Seven Grandfathers i.e. Love, Respect, Humility, Honesty, Truth, Wisdom and Bravery The white settlers were God-fearing people for the most part and also lived in harmony with the land, However, they believed that the land was there for the taking to do with as they wished. Native people could not understand how anyone could "own" the land ,,,it was there for everyone. Native Americans were hunters and gatherers as opposed to farmers. They followed the buffalo herds to their grazing lands. They took only as many animals as they needed and used every part for their survival. They were never wasteful and believed that when you took something or were given something, you always gave something back. The white people defined themselves by their boundaries ( and still do ). Property lines were drawn up, fences erected and roads intersected the land everywhere. Native people would never have done this,,,,the land was for everyone. Native people followed the rythm of the seasons doing everything in its own time. They had no need for clocks.\ The white people also followed the seasons for their planting and harvesting but lived in a different temporal system from the Natives ie. they measured time with a clock . ] (More)
