What exactly is the skeleton system and how does it function?
Weegy: The skeletal system is made up of both fused and individual bones; these bones are further supported by ligaments, tendons, muscles and cartilage. [ The skeletal system is essentially a scaffold which supports the body's organs, anchors the muscles, and offers additional protection to internal organs like the brain and the heart. An adult's skeleton makes up about 30-40% of a person's body weight; around half of this total weight is water. The body's fused bones include the bones of the cranium and the pelvis: these bones are separated at birth, so that newborns have more than 300 bones; as a person ages they grow together and fuse into a single large mass, leaving adults with only about 206 bones. Most of the individual and fused bones are directly connected to one another, but not all of them: three bones in each middle ear (the ossicles) are only connected to each other (not to any other bones in skeletal system) and the hyoid bone, the point of attachment for the tongue, is not connected to any other bones in the body. Instead, it is completely supported by the muscles and ligaments of the neck. There are two parts to the skeletal system: the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton. The axial skeleton has 80 bones, and is made up of the bones of the head, the ribs, and the vertebral column. The appendicular skeleton has 126 bones and includes the bones of the upper and lower limbs and the pelvic and pectoral girdles. The appendicular skeleton's function is to make locomotion possible and to protect the body's major internal organs (aside from those protected by the axial skeleton). The skeleton has several functions apart from support and protection: the joints permit movement, the bone marrow produces red and white blood cells, bone cells release osteocalcin, a hormone which helps regulate blood sugar and fat deposition, and the skeletal cell matrix stores calcium (and is involved in metabolizing calcium), and bone marrow stores some iron (as ... what are the advantages of consumption of Gatorade sports drink?
Weegy: Photo Credit Stockbyte/Stockbyte/Getty Images Gatorade is a brand name commonly associated with athletes and sports of all kinds. [ However, other sports drinks have entered the market over the years, giving Gatorade some healthy competition, and choosing what sports drink to consume has become confusing. Although Gatorade can help you to effectively hydrate and replenish your energy, there is little evidence to suggest that it is more effective than a sports drink with similar ingredients.
