how did the government want citizens to help in the war effort User: what was an actinity of the national war labor board?
Weegy: Both men and women worked in defense plants. People were encouraged to grow their own vegetables in "victory gardens." Citizens organized scrap drives to collect items like metal and old rubber tires that could be used in the war effort. Items like [ gasoline, butter, sugar, eggs and meat were rationed so that servicemen could have enough to eat and there would be an adequate supply of fuel available for military vehicles. Civilians helped staff servicemen's clubs like the USO and volunteered in veterans hospitals. Entertainers like Bob Hope traveled the world giving free shows for the servicemen. Women filled traditionally male jobs like driving cabs because their was a labor shortage. People were urged to drive their cars as little as possible because rubber and gas were in short supply. Americans bought war bonds and stamps to fund the war effort. ] (More)
