Veterinarians implant computer chips into pets and farm animals to identify and track them if they get lost. Some people suggest doing so for children. Discuss the privacy implications of such proposals. What are the risks? Do the benefits outweigh the risks? Do parents have the right to have the chips implanted in their young children? How about in their teenage children? If there was a bill in Congress to require ID chips in children under the age of 5, would you support it? Why or why not?
Weegy: Pros: most obviously, parents can track their children know their location at all times help to end kidnappings and such technology breakthroughs Cons: infringes on the child's privacy complications with insertion (infection, scars, if it moves, [ etc.) kidnappers might just remove the chip in an unsafe way causing more harm to the child than might have been done how will it be powered?? because it has to be, to be located. batteries will die, solar can't be used obviously formation of new, possibly expensive technologies (therefore people have problems paying for it) how would the person be located I think you need to be able to form your own opinion on this matter. But in my own opinion, I wouldn't support a bill on this issue. I'd like to, in hopes that it might stop kidnappings and such, but I think that there are just too many things that could go wrong with this, too many unintended consequences, for it to be a success. As for the age of the child, I believe if this were to be done, it should only be done when the child is a newborn, never after that. And it should be a choice, not a requirement because that encourages pregnant women to use midwifes and opt out of using hospitals for anything. ] (More)
