Weegy: There is the possibility of a catastrophic event, like a meteorite hitting the earth and wiping out much of the life on this planet. There have been at least five such events in the history of the world in which at least 50% of animals on the planet went extinct, and at least 16 more events that were not quite as damaging as the aforementioned five. There is debate as to the cause of these extinctions, but it has happened before, and could happen again. If this was the case, there would be nothing we could do about it. The next, but more likely issue is overpopulation. Most wars are based on the fight for limited resources. The more people on earth competing for limited resources will cause warfare. The more people born will cause more pollution and if you believe in global warming (I do), then more warming as well. This is an issue we can do something about, as opposed to a catastrophic event.
