For the linear system of equations: x + 4y = –8 and x – y = 7, we can solve the second equation for x: x=y+7 and replace on the first equation: y+7+4y=-8 ;
5y=-15 ;
y=-15/5 ;
y=-3.
And x=-3+7=4.
