Q: Discuss the utility of the Andragogy in Practice figure from a learner perspective
A: The figures Knowles suggests for andragogy (teaching adult learners) are the art and science of learning. [ In his 1980 edition of his book, Knowles modifies his first position by saying pedagogy and androgoy are opposite ends of a spectrum of teaching/learning techniques that may be applicable for a given student. The utility of the art-science continuum to the learner is that they can select
from the elements on that spectrum to meets their needs for learning and application to real-life needs. The andragogical model as conceived by Knowles is predicated on four basic assumptions about learners, all of which have some relationship to our notions about a learner's ability, need, and desire to take responsibility for learning: 1.Their self-concept moves from dependency to independency or self-directedness. 2.They accumulate a reservoir of experiences that can be used as a basis on which to build learning. 3.Their readiness to learn becomes increasingly associated with the developmental tasks of social roles. 4.Their time and curricular perspectives change from postponed to immediacy of application and from subject-centeredness to performance-centeredness . ]
