Stirring helps advance the uniformity of the solution in a way that would not occur as quickly if the solute and solvent were simply introduced and left alone. Stirring helps that the total surface area of sugar is in contact with the solvent and carries the fully saturated solution away from the sugar molecule in order to provide not dissolved sugar the access to the water it needs to dissolve. ] (More)
