Alcohol can affect a person's vision in the following ways. Heavy drinking can cause blurring of vision and even double vision; slow pupil reactions; decreased peripheral vision; decreased contrast sensitivity; and in time, due either to nutritional deficiency or the toxic effects of alcohol, alcoholic optic neuritis, which can lead to blindness.
