Question and answer
Q: What does it mean for a manager to have a wide span of control? Would you expect the span of control to be wide or narrow when subordinates are highly trained professionals? Support your answer.
A: Span of control refers to the number of subordinates a supervisor has. If a manager has a wide span of control, he or she would have many people "under" them. [ I would think the span in the situation given would be wide, as highly trained professionals should be able to take care of many matters themselves and also should be able to use technology and other ways of sharing information so one
manager could be over many. ]
