User: What are some theories that may determine sexual orientation?

Weegy: A variety of theories about the influences on sexual orientation have been proposed. Sexual orientation probably is not determined by any one factor but by a combination of genetic, hormonal, and environmental influences. [ [ In recent decades, biologically based theories have been favored by experts. Although there continues to be controversy and uncertainty as to the genesis of the variety of human sexual orientations, there is no scientific evidence that abnormal parenting, sexual abuse, or other adverse life events influence sexual orientation. ] ]

What are some environmental and economic factors that contribute to eating behaviors? What are some ways to overcome these factors?
Weegy: Factors that Contribute to the Development of an Eating Disorder Psychological Feeling that one's life is out of control Persistent low opinions of one's own worth Significant negative mood such as depression, anger, anxiety, [ [ loneliness Interpersonal Discomfort expressing personal feelings Being teased or bullied because of size or weight Family or personal relationships characterized by conflict, or criticism History of sexual, emotional, or physical abuse Social Cultural pressures that place an exaggerated emphasis on appearance, especially to be thin Unrealistic, biologically unattainable standards of beauty Social norms that base social acceptance and attractiveness only on conforming to narrow physical standards Biological It is believed that there is a biological vulnerability to developing an eating disorder but it remains unclear exactly what the vulnerability is. A variety of neurotransmitters, hormones, and chemicals that regulate appetite, digestion and mood are currently being investigated. Understanding the causes of eating disorders is further complicated by the fact that actions that are designed to achieve weight loss can actually cause some disturbed eating behavior. The effects of semi-starvation, also called dieting, can cause physiological changes that perpetuate the disorder. For example, chronic, severe dietary restriction can worsen depression and anxiety, as well as trigger binge eating. Also, the original causes of the eating disorder are likely to not be the factors that keep it going. Often, dieting is initiated in the hopes of producing changes that will make the person feel better about herself or as a way of coping with negative emotions. So what starts out as a way of demonstrating self-control ends up controlling the person. ] ] (More)

What are the health effects of high fructose corn syrup?
Weegy: High-fructose corn syrup, sometimes called corn sugar, has become a popular ingredient in sodas and fruit-flavored drinks. In fact, high-fructose corn syrup is the most common added sweetener in processed foods and beverages. [ Given how ubiquitous high-fructose corn syrup is, some people are concerned about possible adverse health effects. Research studies have yielded mixed results about the possible adverse effects of consuming high-fructose corn syrup. Although high-fructose corn syrup is chemically similar to table sugar (sucrose), concerns have been raised because of how high-fructose corn syrup is processed. Some believe that your body reacts differently to high-fructose corn syrup than it does to other types of sugar. But research about high-fructose corn syrup is evolving. ] (More)

does grilled salmon include a good balance of essential nutrients
Weegy: Salmon Nutrition Salmon is a highly nutritious food. [ [ Of course, it is high in protein, and the ?good fats." But did you know that a 4 oz serving of wild salmon provides a full day?s requirement of vitamin D? It is one of the few foods that can make that claim. That same piece of fish contains over half of the necessary B12, niacin, and selenium, and is an excellent source of B6 and magnesium. Canned salmon also contains large amounts of calcium (due to the bones of the fish). Health Benefits of Salmon People who eat fish seem to be protected from a host of conditions. Some of this is probably due to the omega-3 fats, but there may be other benefits apart from this. The science isn?t clear yet as to all the reasons why eating fish (particularly fatty fish such as salmon) seems to be so darned good for us. Omega-3 fats seem to primarily work through reducing inflammation in our bodies. Inflammation is turning out to be at the base of many health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, some types of cancers and arthritis. Omega-3?s also help prevent the blood clots which cause many strokes. An exciting, fairly recent development is the realization that omega-3 fats have potential to help slow cognitive problems such as Alzheimer?s disease and age-related cognitive decline. Also, people who have sufficient levels of omega-3?s (especially as compared to omega-6 fats) seem to have less depression and suicide risk, as well as less aggression -- in one study, giving prison inmates this type of fat (plus vitamins) reduced aggressive behavior by a third in a mere two weeks. ] (More)
