Q: Describe two ways of finding out about the history, preferences, wishes and needs of an individual using the service.
A: Communication can be difficult,especially when u are in a situation where u are unsure of the language & abilities of those who u are associating with.For example,in a resort abroad u are likely to be unsure of language which people who u become [ acquainted with speak.On the other hand,u may be in a place where u are unsure if someone is deaf/mute or suffers from other disabilities which may
impair their language & communication skills.It takes a degree of sensitivity & intuition to establish communication in these situations,but it can be overcome quite quickly where u make an effort to establish the needs or the individual. It is always best when u meet someone to begin communication upon ur own terms;if u speak English greet them as such,although ensure that u are speaking slowly & clearly.The person who u are addressing will then either respond,meaning that u both have same needs/ preferences in language,or they will make it clear if they cannot understand what u are saying. t should be fairly easy to work out whether they have not understood due to communication impairments or language differences based upon their reaction to ur initial introduction. If they have disabilities,try to communicate through body language or they may even be able to lipread;perhaps try both to see which they are receptive to,& continue from there.If they seem to be speaking a different language,u can either try speaking in a different tongue(should u know another)or again try body language.u may even know someone nearby who may be able to help u out. If communication appears too difficult,& u are unable to meet the needs,wishes & preferences of person with whom u are trying to interact,u may need to give up. However,providing u have made amble effort to overcome the difficulties,u should not feel so bad;there is only so much u can do to aid communication with the abilities that u urself have. ]
