Not much if your college class fellow is your friend. But off course the difference that you cannot open up to the class as much as you can to your friend

The syllabus contains the topic the will be discussed on the workshop. Downloading and printing it will somehow lead you to read the syllabus, hence, upon reading it will give you an overview of the things that will be tackled during your workshop.
