User: Where was Beowulf when Grendel burst into the hall? preparing for battle hiding for a surprise attack pretending to be asleep

Weegy: He was a water demon, and needed to be fed. Although he is impervious to any weapons, he preferred to strike at night because the thanes in the hall were either asleep or too drunk to fight him off. [ The first time he stroked and killed 30 of the thames and dragged their corpses to his lair under the lake, and fed on them. Beowulf finally kills him during Grendel's last nightly strike. You see Beowulf is wide awake but pretending to be asleep. So on that night, Grendel strikes and kills one, then goes off to do the same to the next person who happens to be Beowulf who started battling with him, and finally cuts off one of his arms, and Grendel dies..........you know the rest. ]
