Solution:

1. let money made in 1st quarter be x..

then according to question, x + 1/3 of x = 4 million

on solving, x = 3 million

2. let money in 3rd quarter be y.

then according to question, 4/5 of y = 4 million

on solving, y = 5 million .

adding 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter money, x+ 4+ y = 3+ 4+ 5 = 12 millions

Therefore the answer is 12 million , the company make in the three quarters combined.
