Why is livestock agriculture thought to be more vulnerable to disasters now than in 1900?
We now tend to rely more on antibiotics in herds of our livestock animals than we did in those days, thus our herds may also become resistant, making them more at risk for outbreaks of new strains of illness. [ Other disasters are perhaps a threat due to the more intense production of livestock, such as the use of factory farms. This intense production puts more animals on less land than ever
before. In such an area of natural disaster more animals would be killed than when the animals are more evenly distributed on smaller family farms. ]
