Why are there more daylight hours during the summer in any particular hemisphere?
That hemisphere is exposed to the sun for longer periods of time.
The Earth is pointing ...
... away from the sun.
The sun's rays hits polar latitudes more directly.
There are actually more daylight hours during the winter.
During the Summer the Earth's axis is tilted so that the Sun's rays hit the Northern Hemisphere, therefore we have more daylight hours during the Summer time.
