When it comes to a relationship there are never questions that will purely be based on critical thinking with no emotions involved, but some questions you can ask her are:
-Does s/he see her/himself having any future with her partner?
-What are the reasons s/he is considering the break up in the first place?
-Are there any changes in her/his life that are making her/him lean towards a breakup with their partner?
-If the break up does take place does s/he see that as a solution or a problem?
