How would you define the pretrial criminal process?
Weegy: There are five steps to the Pretrial process: 1. Interview & collection of Data and Information 2. Verification of Data and Information 3. Court Appearance 4. Release of Defendant on Bail 5. Supervision A. [ Compliance vs. Non-Compliance a preliminary hearing takes place in public, with the defendant and the attorneys for both sides present. At this stage, a lower court judge reviews the prosecution's evidence to see if there is enough evidence to support the criminal charges. The standard for testing the evidence is probable cause. ] (More)

How does an appeal relate to the overall criminal process?
Weegy: If the defendant in a criminal case, or a plaintiff in a civil case, believes that their original trial was flawed in some manner, [ they may appeal it to the next higher court (i.e.: The Court of Appeals) and ask for a review. An appeals court is not automatically required to review the case, but if they do, they will scrutinize the original case for possible errors in applying the law or in judicial procedure and issue a ruling either affirming the verdict ((.e.: the original verdict stands) or sending it back for re-trial or overturning it altogether. If the defendant/plaintiff is not happy with the finding of the Appeals Court they may once again appeal, this time to the to the Supreme Court, where the process begins anew. The procedure is the same whether it is in the State circuits or the Federal circuits It should be noted and emphasized that, the only court in the process that actually conducts a trial is the court of original jurisdiction. The Appeals Court and the Supreme Court both conduct "en banc" hearings (i.e.: judges only). ] (More)

How does the pretrial criminal process affect postarrest processes and trials?
Weegy: While many citizens think the real action in the criminal courts happens during trials, they are wrong in that assessment. Ninety percent of criminal cases are disposed of by guilty pleas rather than trials. [ Most of those guilty pleas are the result of agreements between prosecutors and defense attorneys. Plea bargaining is a process in which a prosecutor makes a concession to a defendant (for example, reducing charges or recommending a lighter sentence) in exchange for the defendant's pleading guilty. Even cases that go to trial are sometimes decided before the trial begins. ] (More)
