Blood as a whole is considered an organ, just as your stomach or liver. It is as alive as any part of you to whatever extent you will take that to.

The walls of veins (and venules) have the same three layers as arteries, but there is less smooth muscles and connective tissue. Therefore, the wall of a vein is thinner than that of an artery.
