User: Why does changing the pH of a solution affect the ablility of an enzyme to catalyze a chemical reaction ?

Weegy: The pH of a solution will determine whether certain amino acids of the enzyme are charged. Many active-site amino acids require a certain charge to react with the substrate. [ Protonation and deprotonation of amino acids can also change the conformation of the protein in other regions by enabling or disabling ionic interactions. Increasing the temperature of a reaction can cause changes in the shape of the enzyme by giving certain amino acids enough energy to lose their stability and "flop" around in solution. This can change the distance of particular residues from the catalytic site. Source: ]
