explain why it is important to use language that is both age appropriate and ability appropriate when communicating with individuals with learning disabilities
Imagine if our mind didn't work as fast as others how would we feel if people treated we like a child? Our needs and wants would be the same as others of our age so it wouldn't help to be patronised. Ability appropriate communication would be, [ for example, slowing down our speech to suit an individual's understanding and giving them an appropriate amount of time for them to respond. So really
it is important to use language that is both age appropriate and ability appropriate when communicating with individuals with learning disabilities ]
