The rule for the linear function in the table is y = -4x.
x f(x) –4 16 0 0 4 –16 8 –32
when x = -4, y = -4(-4) = 16
when x = 0, y = -4(0) = 0
when x = 4, y = -4(4) = -16
when x = 8, y = -4(8) = -32

The two numbers with a sum of 20 and a difference of 14 are 3 and 17.
Let x and y be the two numbers then:
x + y = 20
x - y = 14
adding up equations the result is:
2x = 34
x = 34/2 = 17
17 + y = 20
y = 20 - 17 = 3
