Question and answer
How might knowing the advantages and disadvantages of social media alter how a person might use social media?
Disadvantages: - The chances of being hacked, especially if you disclose important, critical information. - The ability for "lies" and "rumours" to spread like an virus, often distorting the real truth. - Increased chances in cyber bullying, [ which often leads to emotional distress and even suicide. - Being used as a substitue for visiting news websites; people getting too much information
from places that provide no sufficient source. - A "distraction" for many. People consider Twitter and Facebook, for example, too distracting. - The general stigma; "all people on FB are dumb teens and everyone on Twitter update us on stuff we don't care about". Advantages: - Ability to spread important news. - Makes people more widespread about certain issues. - Have the opportunity to start groups and activist organisations that can make everyone globally aware (stuff like Occupy Wall Street started on Facebook). - Keep in contact with people who are from long distances. - Advertising; businesses' who advertise on social media make people more aware that this business exists. Basically, it's more advantageous to advertise now on social media than in the yellow pages. ]

Weegy: Somehow the information on the net is reliable and credible, and this is the only place where we can search for a certain thing fast and quick, and has almost complete details. [ I find it credible because it has sources such as videos to explain the details. DIGITAL is a technology that uses discrete, discontinuous representations of information or works in a discontinuous manner. DIVIDE is to separate into parts, sections, groups, or branches. ] (More)

what does digital divide mean.how do you think this divide could be bridged
Weegy: "Digital divide" assumes (a) that racial discrimination is both the cause and the effect; and (b) that whites are primarily responsible for the alleged racial discrimination. User: can the digital divide be bridged? Weegy: The concept of the digital divide is becoming more and more complex as access to computers and the use of computers, changes over time. [ [ When the existence of a ?digital divide? first emerged, it revolved around access to computers and related technologies. The high cost of computers create a large divide between people who could afford them, and who had access to all the advantages of a computer, and those who could not. The falling cost of computers, combined with initiatives in many countries to create community access points or telecentres [link], has meant that more and more people are gaining access to some form of computer. As more people gain basic access to computers, the term ?digital divide? has grown to encompass technological literacy and the total cost of running a computer?in other words, the ability, both technical and financial, to make full use of the technology available. The digital divide now takes into consideration access, or lack of access, to the Internet, as well. The digital divide is not only an issue in developing countries. Even in very wealthy countries, various communities face barriers to access, for economic, linguistic, and even generational reasons. ] ] User: what are the best way to assess the infromation from the internet Weegy: The best way to assess the value of the information that you get from the internet is by cross referencing it with information on the same subject from multiple sources. how can someone assess the infromation from the internet
Weegy: There are several factors to consider in assessing information on the internet especially now that there is an information overload on the web because of the countless references and publisher. [ However, you may take into account this steps to assess such information. Accessibility Is the information on the site accessible to visitors who are visually impaired? Hearing impaired? Is it easily navigable by those who have limited physical movement or use assistive devices? Does the color scheme make it difficult to impossible for those with color-deficient vision impairments, or who have trouble discriminating certain color combinations to read the information at the site (examples of problematic text/backgrounds: dark gray on black, yellow on white, red on green)? Design/Style Is the site pleasing or comfortable to look at, allowing your eyes to travel the page logically? Is there an overwhelming use of the all the latest animated and streaming graphics, Flash and Java, to the point where it is distracting or slows your access to the information you are seeking? Structure Is the site easy to navigate? Are there links available to enable you to move throughout the site? Can you move the frames around or are they fixed? Signal:Noise Ratio Is the site crammed with cute (or annoying) graphics, banners, buttons, webrings, and other things (noise) that are not information (signal)? Relevance Assuming you've actually found the information part of the site, is the information actually useful to you? Site Owner/Author Who owns the site or is otherwise responsible for the content of the site. Given the availability of inexpensive yet sophisticated web authoring tools, anyone can design a good looking site, but appearances are not necessarily indicative of the accuracy or timeliness of the information found on the site. What information is given so that you can determine who the owner is and what their experience is, the resources they used, etc., that will help ... (More)
