Ions in a bar of pure iron are surrounded by a large number of valence electrons. C. There are less than 16 valence electrons in 2 chlorine atoms, but they form a stable bond.
Weegy: B. Chlorine accepts 1 electron from calcium to form a stable bond. User: Magnesium has 2 valence electrons, and oxygen has 6 valence electrons. Which type of bonding is likely to occur between a magnesium atom and an oxygen atom?Select one of the options below as your answer: A. Ionic—Magnesium will give 2 electrons to oxygen, and both will become ions. B. Ionic—Oxygen will give 2 electrons to magnesium, and both will become ions. C. Metallic—Oxygen and magnesium atoms will be surrounded by a pool of electrons. Weegy: In bonding with another element, magnesium has an oxidation number of +2. It gives away 2 electrons when it bonds. It will most easily bond with an element that accepts 2 electrons. [ With an oxidation number of -2 that is oxygen, which contains 6 electrons in its valence shell. The correct answer is C. ] User: Calcium sulfide forms when calcium loses 2 valence electrons to sulfur.
