did both conservatives and liberals criticize the new deal
Weegy: Not everyone supported the New Deal. As a formula for economic recovery, the New Deal failed. Many businessmen and financiers did not support the economic measures of the New Deal. [ With the recession of 1937, many business leaders and politicians claimed that FDR's policies were a failure and the attempt to maintain prosperity during peacetime was not successful at all. Many felt that the Depression was just part of the free enterprise (capitalistic) system correcting itself and the laws, such as supply and demand, of the free enterprise system would eventually heal the economy. There were some radical proposals. Huey Long (The Kingfish) from Louisiana gained some support for his "Share the Wealth" program. This would place taxes on the very wealthy and no personal incomes on more than one million dollars a year would be allowed. This appealed to the poor and middle class. Dr. Townsend proposed a monthly pension plan in which the federal government would pay a pension to all people over 60 years of age. The pensioners would have to spend all the monthly pension before getting the next months check, and they could not work. Father Coughlin was a Roman Catholic priest who had a radio program. He proposed a complete overhaul of the monetary system, including abolition of the Federal Reserve System. While FDR had his critics, none of their programs were ever adopted and FDR's popularity remained high and eventually the critics and their supporters gave up. what did the social security act provide for americans
Weegy: The federal retirement plan enacted by Congress in 1935. The original purpose (unchanged today) of the Act was to adopt a system that required the current working generation to contribute to the support of older, retired workers. [ The Act was passed in response to old-age dependency resulting from Depression-generated phenomena. Read more: ] (More)

what did president roosevelt do in an effort to feform the supreme court
Weegy: In the year of 1937, [ Roosevelt tried to put in place many innovative and reforming programs in order to get the country out of the Depression. At that time the prevailing opinion on governments taking actions that were more like actions a private business would take was that it was most likely unconstitutional. Roosevelt had several of his projects declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. He felt there were too many old men on the court and that they could not get with modern times. In order to get more justices on the Supreme Court so he would have more justices voting for his plans, he proposed the so-called "Court-Packing" plan. Under the Constitution, Supreme Court justices could not be removed for disagreeing with the president. Nor did they have a mandatory retirement age. So the "old men" could not be displaced. His plan called for adding one new justice for every one that turned 70 years old. Thus the number of justices could change from the usual 9 to some larger number (as many as 15). The US Constitution does not require only 9 justices. It simply creates the Supreme Court. Congress decides how many justices it shall have. There was opposition to the plan but one of the old men died and one retired so Roosevelt was able to replace them with younger justices who would vote to uphold his projects and the court-packing plan was forgotten. How did the Social Security Act help Americans?
Weegy: The social security act was put into use on August 14, 1935 I believe, and it was created to provide for the general welfare by establishing a system of Federal old-age benefits, [ and by enabling the several States to make more adequate provision for aged persons, blind persons, dependent and crippled children, maternal and child welfare, public health, and the administration of their unemployment compensation laws. During the 1930's racial tensions exploded. They were as strong as ever in the southern states. The number of African-American's moving to the northern states increased greatly during WWII, (especially during the depression) which caused tensions grow stronger there as well.

Also, when the Depression hit and competition of jobs was fierce, California began to more vigorously crack down on illegal immigration. In 1933, Los Angeles County hired over a dozen trains to deport more than 10,000 Mexicans who had been on county relief rolls. Soon after, in 1935, the California Relief Administration began denying public aid to Mexicans across the state. Between 1929 and 1935, the federal government played a direct role in deporting 82,000 Mexicans.

how did the great depression affect racial tensions in the united states
Weegy: A) - rapid urbanisation often results in poor quality housing, in the past this has meant high rise living in terrible conditions and dehumanisation of traditional communities. [ Jobs become more difficult to find as there are more people competing for the same job-which pushes the wage rate even lower. All of this lends itself to a rise in crime as these areas often become difficult to police. ] User: which new deal program oversaw the development of dams and hydroelectric power facilities (More)
