Many people died by drinking liquor that was processed incorrectly by scheming bootleggers. But there were some advantages. If you look at how much people actually used to drink in America, it's pretty astounding. By some estimates, Prohibition managed to reduce drinking in America by abuot 30%. And the temperance movement that started a half century before helped educate people about some of the dangers of excessive drinking. Overall, it was a pretty stupid idea to ban drinking, though, which is why Prohibition was repealed about a dozen years later.
