While some memories are retained for a lifetime, most memories are forgotten.[2] According to evolutionary psychologists, forgetting is adaptive because it facilitates selectivity of rapid, efficient recollection.[3] For example, a person trying to remember where he parked his car would not want to remember every place he has ever parked. In order to remember something, therefore, it is essential not only to activate the relevant information, but also to inhibit irrelevant information. There are many memory phenomena that seem to involve inhibition, although there is often debate about the distinction between interference and inhibition. ]

How can you tell if someone is doing something from an intrinsic motivation as opposed to doing it from an extrinsic motivation. For example, there are two individuals donating to the same charity. One individual is wealthy and the other person is not. Is one of these individuals donating more from an intrinsic motivation than from an extrinsic motivation. Is the motivation the same. How would you decide.
