The outer covering of the brain, the cerebral cortex is the largest part of the brain which controls the higher mental processes that enhances learning, memory, thought, and language.
The central core of the brain controls the biological aspect of the brain and the cerebral cortex controls the higher mental processes. They are both very important to our daily functioning needs. Biologically, we need to breath, sleep, and be able to eat. We need to be able to perform these daily functions to sustain our daily activities in life. We also need to use the cerebral cortex to control our mental thought processes. If we do not have the capabilities of learning or thinking, we may be mentally handicapped and will be unable to handle these functions on our own.
