In "A Warning Against Passion," what purpose does the story about Mary's experience with love serve in Brontë's advice to Nell?
Weegy: I believe this is taken from a letter Charlotte writes to Ellen Nussey. [ If this is the passage you are referring to I know that her advise to Mr Vincent was to speak openly and directly to Ellen and not to her relatives trying to understand what is the impression he has made on her. Her view of falling in love is more complicated. Her society led women to hide their feelings until they were proposed to. Obviously Charlotte feels that this deception is stupid and tiring but on the other hand is prudent to follow the advice and habits of society. She believes in following a medium way between passion and reason. To love with all your strength is not prudent but neither is marrying somebody whom you can not tolerate. About marriage she believes that women can be patient and ignore small things that may irritate them on the other sex provided that their husband has some common sense and can be led in important issues. Also that love is possible but it wouldn't be wise to reach the extend of depending too much on your husband's will. ] (More)
