Why might France have been more motivated to resist independence movements in Algeria than it had in French Indo-China? Algeria had a large settler community made up of French-speaking Europeans. Algeria had been a part of France since the end of World War II. The Vietnamese resistance was stronger and far more organized. The Vietnamese independence movement appealed to Britain for help.
