Why do you think European and the United States government supported the creation of Israel in the late 1940's?
Weegy: Actually the British mandate to create the state of Israel happened in 1922 after the WWI ended and the Ottoman Empire fell. [ Britain had promised the Palestinian Jews if they supported them against the Ottoman Empire in WWI, they would give them Israel. The mandate expired in 1948 and Israel became independent. The UN had divided the land for Jews and for Arabs. Zionists had been very infuential in Europe since the 19 century.. Weegy: To the best of my knowledge Israel signed no such agreement in 1949 or in fact at any other time The agreement they did sign was the Balfour Declaration which said quote "it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the [ civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."
