Describe how mealtime cultures and environments can be a barrier to meeting the nutritional needs of an individual with dementia.
Weegy: Mealtime cultures such as having strict meal times and meal sizes, certain number of courses and in certain orders such as starter, main, dessert etc may not adhere to the needs of a person with dementia. [ Their tastes may have changed and may not wish to eat the meals set out for them in a particular 'traditional order'. They may not wish to eat at the same time as everybody else or may wish to eat small amounts more often. By trying to stick to normal meal time cultures, this can be a barrier to the nutritional needs of the individual. The care they recieve should be person centred and to fit in with what the individual needs, this should also be true with the meals the person recieves. Environmental factors such as being around lots of other diners, loud noises, music or bustling restaurants etc are not ideal for a dementia patient as they can become easily distacted and overwhelmed by too much information being processed at once. This can be a barrier to them being able to focus on their food. ] User: Describe how mealtime environment and food presentation can be designed to help an individual to eat and drink. Describe how to challenge discrimination in a way that promotes change.
Weegy: Immediately, if I witness a discriminatory incident, I would address the situation by reporting and recording it. By doing this it is more likely to be dealt with in the appropriate manner. [ If I overheard someone making a discriminatory remark or not promoting equality or valuing diversity, I would challenge them in a calm and professional way and tell them that what they were saying or doing, is unacceptable and explain why. I could also add that, I am upset and offended by their discriminatory words and actions and that it is unlawful. In a work setting, discrimination can be a disciplinary matter and policies and procedures will be in place to deal with this. I could actively challenge discrimination by acting as a role model for positive behaviour and by empowering people to challenge discrimination themselves. Discrimination usually occurs through ignorance. By making a person aware of the facts it will educate them and hopefully change their opinions and actions in the future. ] (More)
